About this role

Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly relates to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by 1. Digital Telecommunication Systems: Thorough knowledge of the related theory and practical aspects of digital electronic principles and practices. 2. Network Infrastructure and Systems: A broad working knowledge of Base Level Communications Systems, including Defense Switched Network (DSN), AVAYA telephone switches (CS-2100/S8700), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM)/Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET) systems, and IP networks (NIPRNET/SIPRNET). 3. Quality Control: Proficiency in the application of communications-electronics quality assurance and quality control test, measurement, and inspection policies and procedures. 4. Troubleshooting: Independently analyzing system/network troubles to determine the location of defective circuitry and performing repairs or replacements without causing a total network outage. Diagnosing and resolving switch performance anomalies and alarms (e.g., from AVAYA, DWDM/SONET systems). 5. Maintenance: Performing scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on the full range of telecommunications equipment according to OEM instructions and established procedures. 6. Testing: Using and interpreting results from a wide array of electronic test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) to perform inspections, evaluate operational capabilities, and ensure system quality control. 7. Problem-Solving: The ability to analyze complex technical problems, devise methods for resolving switch and network performance issues, and make recommendations for changes in procedures or equipment to solve unique operational deficiencies. This position is within the Work Category 441 at Work Level Basic, Electronics Technician GG-09.
